Burna Boy and AKA, recent MTV Music Africa Award winners with Da LES and JR for best collaboration, are at it again. Their hot new release No! is a first for Africa - and part of a plan to take urban African sounds to ads, movies and games around the world.
"Every time that I try to walk through your door," Burna Boy sings. "There is always somebody there telling me NO." The song was inspired by the frustrations of advertising industry creative who keep being told "No!" - but a lot of listeners in Naija will sympathise!
No! was created for the Loeries, Africa's biggest celebration of brand creativity which takes place in Durban from August 14 - 16. It is the first project from a brand new platform from Universal Music Publishing. Called Songstruct, the new project licences music to the advertising and marketing communications industries.
A track all about hearing No! means more "yes" to creative collaboration.
Through Songstruct, Universal Music Publishing has brought together not just Nigerian and South African stars, but also two of Africa's creative powerhouse industries.
"I'm really excited about taking my sound to brands around the world," says Burna Boy. "The ads you watch online are going to sound a whole lot more African."
Burna Boy's partner in South Africa, Geobek Entertainment is looking forward to South Africa and Nigeria's Music Industries working together to reach even greater heights over the next few years.
